Set Useful KPIs

The worst KPIs are the ones that look good on paper but don’t tell you anything useful. Stats like “number of ideas submitted” sound impressive until you realize that does not let you prove that any of them went anywhere. What you want are indicators that show whether the system creates results for your business.

Instead track how many ideas get selected or implemented, which teams or departments supply most winning ideas, which strategic goals you’ve collected ideas for and reasons why ideas are archived. These are leading indicators of whether your process creates value. Most of all, they help you course-correct before people lose interest.
